Tip Number One has to do with commenting. There are a variety of reasons to comment on others blogs. Most importantly you can share your point of view on the topic.
Commenting shows you are part of the community and willing to participate.
Another benefit depending on the topic is that you have a chance to show your expertise.
My question to you is how easy are you making it for others to post on your blog.
You may think that’s an odd question but here’s part of what I’m talking about.
I have been to numerous blogs where the only way to comment is using Facebook. I don’t post on those blogs. Why? I don’t use Facebook in that way. I do post on private groups I belong to on Facebook but I don’t add things like that into my news feed. I also don’t want to have to log in to Facebook to make a comment. If there were another option to post I would gladly do it.
From this experience I decided to do some things differently.
On my blog I want to offer a way to pay it forward so to speak. That’s why I use Comment Luv. When you post a comment on my blog you also have the option of choosing one of your last 10 posts to show up.
The benefits to others are huge! When you make a comment on my blog others now have the opportunity to see what your blog is about. By the same token you get to see what their blogs are about as well.
In my opinion it’s a win win for everyone.
Tip Number Two – Sharing
The next lesson I learned was about sharing. We all want our posts shared so why not make it as easy as possible.
In visiting other blogs I see a lack of sharing options. For instance I have wanted to tweet a post only to look all over the page and not find the twitter or linked in icon.
This lead me to install a floating social plugin. Since doing this my shares, likes etc. have increased tremendously. The only draw back seems to be that on ipads and iphones the bar sometimes seems to get in the way when you are reading the post. On my iphone when I scroll and read I am able to do that but if I scroll too fast it covers more of the post. I’ve heard others mention this as well and I’m sure as we reach out to the developer that hopefully will change.
I have tried a couple of floating plugins but this one seems to be the best.
Tip Number Three – Introduce Yourself
The third tip I’ve learned is to have an author bio box on my blog. This gives you a quick glance into who the author of the blog is and what they do.
Another feature of the author blog I appreciate is that you can also see a photo of the author. This allows you the opportunity to connect in a more personal way.
These are just three tips for a better blog but obviously there are more.
What must have tips have you learned from visiting the blogs of others?
