Have you ever come across a problem you couldn’t solve? It can be frustrating, to say the least.
But what if you had a plan? A step-by-step process you could go through each time that happens.
One of the reasons I offer planners is because when you have a step-by-step process, it can make your life and business easier. You can get things done faster. And when you get these done faster it helps you profit!
Continue reading, and there’s good chance this 6 step process will help you be a real problem-solving guru!
Step 1: Calm Cool and Collected
Being frazzled isn’t going to help if you’re struggling to solve a problem.
Problem-solving essentially comes down to creativity – the ability to think outside the box and to find possible ways to address issues that others might have missed. When you’re stressed, your brain goes into a kind of ‘tunnel vision’ mode which completely hampers that crucial creativity.
So the first thing to do is step back and breathe slowly to activate your parasympathetic nervous system to get a handle on your emotions.
These are things I learned when I was in the massage therapy business.
Step 2: Define the Problem
I know you’re thinking, “Of course I know the problem.” But do you? Issues and problems are different things and sometimes it can be hard to see the forest for the trees. Instead of going into panic mode over all the things that can go wrong and everything you need to take into account, try this exercise.
Write down the single ‘problem’ you are coming up against in a few words. Maybe it’s that you can’t get your website to load faster, you can’t get people to sign up for your free offer, you can’t get more leads and sales.
Pro Tip: Tackle one problem at a time. Start with your website load time. Focus first on that and once it’s resolved move on to the next problem.
Step 3: Re-word the Problem
Have you ever read something and all of a sudden a light bulb went off? The way it was worded made things click for you.
When you have a problem reword it and see if that helps you look at it in a whole new light. Try it and let me know if that helps.
Step 4: List Your Resources
The next thing to do is to list the resources available to you that might be able to help you solve the problem.
Are there people, groups, forums that might be able to help? What about specific tools?
Create a list so that when you come up against a problem you know immediately where to turn to for help and advice.
Step 5: Make a Mind Map
Creating a mind map to represent your problem can often help.
Don’t worry about getting fancy software to do this. Sometimes that kind of software takes time to learn, and it’s really not necessary. Instead get out your paper and pen and create your mind map.
Write down all the related aspects and all those resources and start to see new connections you might previously have missed.
Step 6: Ask for Help
Why is it that people hold back from asking for help? If you know someone who can help or you need a mentor or coach get in touch with them and ask for help.
If it’s going to entail a fee is it worth it to solve your problem? Let’s say that problem takes you a week or two away from your business goal. Isn’t it worth paying for help in resolving the issue so you can get on with making your business profitable?
What I want you to think about is that you want to be paid for your products and services. You value your time and what you do. Value the time of a mentor or coach and pay them their fee.
It’s a business expense and one that could help you get to where you want to be a lot faster.
Don’t let your ego get in the way of asking for the help you need. We all reach road blocks and need help when our problems are insurmountable.
Consider outsourcing. It could be your problem can be overcome by outsourcing it to a VA or someone else who is more experienced.
There you have it. A simple 6 step process to follow for solving your problems.
