The Four Letter Word That Stops An Entrepreneur
This is actually Part 2 in the series of “Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur”?
There is one 4 letter word that stops many in their track. Do you know what it is?
There are many levels of fear you may experience when it comes to becoming an entrepreneur.
Here are some of those fears:
1) Fear of putting yourself out there
2) Fear of failure
3) Fear of the unknown
Let’s take the first fear. Putting yourself out there means you may have to face criticism. You may also have a fear of being judged.
No one likes this type of negativity however you can face it head on. Remember if you know it may be coming then you can be prepared for it. In time you will learn to develop a thick skin and adapt to this type of negativity. What I’m talking about here is not constructive criticism but situations that arise from people being perhaps jealous or just being down right mean.
There are ways to deal with these types of people. First and foremost do not let them steal your voice. You voice is powerful and must be heard. Your voice can drown out those naysayers words enabling you to succeed in achieving your goals.
As your voice becomes louder you will attract the right people. You will also be able to repel the negative ones.

Fear of failure – It’s normal to want to want to succeed. You have something to prove to yourself and you may feel you need to prove it to others.
In order to find the core reasons you are fearful you need to study yourself. You have to know your own habits and the way you react to various situations. [envoke_twitter_link]The more you delve into yourself and your fears the more you can face them head on.[/envoke_twitter_link]
This means you have to learn to not back away from the fear but rather lean into the fear. That leaning in to the fear can excite you and make your ready for the challenge.
Many people love roller coasters. The higher and faster it goes the more you scream with fear and excitement. View your business in this way. The more highs and lows you have the more you brace for that ride.
Next you have a fear of the unknown. No one can tell you all the pitfalls you might have. However with diligence and research you can see where others have succeed and or failed. You can learn by the mistakes they made so you don’t fall into those same traps.
Chances are the business you want to start has already been done. It’s not like you have a goal that is so far fetched that no one has ever done it!
In your research you will find past and present examples of those who have succeeded.
If you are fearful of the unknown read magazines on your topic. Visit websites.
If they can do it so can you!
Keep in mind it takes time. Don’t become discouraged if after 3, 6 or 9 months your are not as successful as you thought you might be.
Keep positive. You may need to seek the guidance and direction of an experienced coach or mentor. Perhaps you know another successful business owner you can talk to.
You are not alone in your quest to become an entrepreneur.
Being an entrepreneur means you are able to see things differently than others. You are part of a group of people who know they can do so much more by creating their own business.
Surround yourself with others who think like you do.
