When I started my first business it was before Google and YouTube existed.
I found networking to be the hardest part of running my business.
That’s because I was told to go about networking the wrong way.
You see I was told your main goal at a networking event was to put your business card into as many hands as possible. The next thing I was to do was to get business cards from others so that I left the event with a large stack.
The problem was two-fold.
I didn’t feel comfortable doing that.
Second I had no idea what to do with those business cards when I got home!
That’s all changed because I’ve found out what it means to be a power networker and now I absolutely love going to events and meeting new people.
It doesn’t matter where you are in your business. You need to know what networking is and how you can become a superstar at it.
When you know the proper steps to take as you network you will find it gets easier and easier.
Start with these 10 must-know tips:
Think about networking events you’ve attended. You know the ones I mean. A person comes up to you and all they want to do is sell you their product or service. What’s your reaction? Do you want to stick around or do you find yourself looking for a way to exit the conversation?
That’s exactly how people feel when you go to an event and try to sell to them.
Start viewing your networking events as a way to build rapport and business relationships.
That’s what networking is really all about building and maintaining business relationships.
Once you understand that you will look at going to events on and offline in a whole new way.
*When networking focus on how you can help others.
*Know your goals when networking
*Keep a positive mindset when networking
*Your attitude matters when networking
*Prepare a 30-second elevator pitch
There’s always room for improvement when it comes to networking.
