Join Me In This Feel Good Moment – Blind Girl Dances with Derek Huff
The other night I just happened to turn on the last portion of dancing with the stars. What I saw reminded me of that tiny ballerina in the music box. Maybe you had one growing up. I loved opening that jewelry box and seeing her dancing to music. It is one of my favorite childhood memories.
I wanted to share with you this incredibly inspiring story of Brilynn Rakes.
Brilynn is 17 and legally blind. She will never drive. She has to wear special contacts that protect her eyes because they are extremely sensitive to light.
You might think that would hinder her in many ways but this young women has strength, courage and determination.
Birlynn has been taking Private dancing lessons for years. When she watches TV she has to get within two inches of it and look sideways at it.
I didn’t see the beginning of the segment to find out how Derek Huff found out about Brilynn. All I know is that it was a special moment for her and all of us who watched this tiny ballerina come out of the box and onto the stage.
If you do nothing else today watch the video down below of Brilynn. It will be your feel good moment of the day.
I couldn’t get the embed code from YouTube so here is the link to the video.
I could only imagine how her parents felt watching her dance. I cried. Derek Huff was very emotional after the dance. In an interview he did with xfinityTV he said “She emulates what I try to live my life by, which is just following your bliss your passion, what you love. She did that, even with the restriction in her eyesight. She just loves dancing and followed it, even with her vision. She just found a way and we can all take a page out of her book.”
Dancing ballet is not easy. When I was in my late teens I finally was able to “pretend” I was that ballerina by taking some lessons. It’s a lot harder than you think! The fact that Brilynn can only see shapes a few feet in front of her and learn ballet to me is nothing short of inspirational.
This proves without a doubt that if you believe it you can achieve it.
There’s no doubt Brilynn has a lot of challenges but it’s the way she approaches them. She has a positive outlook and nothing is going to stand in her way.
That’s how many of us entrepreneurs feel. Some how some way we will find our way onto the “dance floor” and create the business of our dreams.
“Success is focusing the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve.”
What do you find inspirational about this story?
Did you watch the video to see Brilynn dance?
