One of the mastermind groups I belong to had people talking about how to start a blog.
My ears always perk up when I hear people wanting to start a blog. I think it’s one of the best ways to create brand awareness.
In this particular group people talked about starting blogs in 3 major niches:
What any blog needs is photos. Imagine reading a travel blog about a beautiful blue ocean. Wouldn’t you want to see what that ocean looked liked?
Let’s say you had a travel blog and you went to the cutest eatery ever. As you wrote about it your readers would be wondering what it looked like.
No matter what niche you choose you need photos.
We are visual creatures. About 90% of the information sent to the brain is through our vision.
Visual content is understood by the brain faster than text. This could explain the popularity of comic books because readers can read and understand many times faster than plain text.
Today visual social media is growing by leaps and bounds. Even those who used text only formats are now using more visuals. It’s these images that are now being shared bringing brand awareness.
Blog posts with images get more views
Readers are more likely to see an image and want to know what it’s all about. It peaks their curiosity.
Since images are so important how would you go about starting a photography blog?
Check out the tips in this infographic.
As you can see from this infographic a lot goes into having a photography blog.
Years ago there was a woman who started a photograph blog because she loved horses. She invited other people to post their images and at the end of the month someone’s photo was featured.
It was really interesting to see these photos from around the world.
At one time I had a photography blog that was all about weddings. That was when I was heavily involved in the wedding industry.
I loved posting my images and because I did it was never dull or boring.
If you start a blog you have to make sure you love what you are doing otherwise it’s easy to lose interest and stop.
What’s important when starting a blog is your domain name. You need people connecting with it right away. If they don’t know what your blog is about from your domain name they may not take a look at what you have to offer.
For example in our area we have a company that installs and fixes air conditioners. Their name says nothing about what they do and as a matter of fact I’ve met their marketing director who had to explain to more than one person at a networking event what his company was all about.
Once you’ve decided to start a blog you need to choose a platform.
I would highly recommend WordPress. As a matter of fact 23.3% of all websites are WordPress sites.
When using images on your site make sure you have the rights to use those photos.
You would never want to find a great photo use it without permission.
When uploading your photos make sure you have the proper alt tags. For example when I was looking to do weddings in a particular area I would make sure my photos were named properly so the search engines would find them.
Even if you have a business blog you can have creative images on your site to make your posts engaging. Just take a look at my posts and you’ll see what I mean:)
