What’s one of the best ways to start a business? Follow a step by step process.
That’s why I wanted to share with you this How To Start A Business Infographic.
When you can see things visually it helps cement the thoughts, ideas and concepts in your mind.
As you can see from this infographic:
Step 1: Have A Plan
Lack of having a plan is the number one mistake I see people make all the time.
It’s easy to think that all it takes is running with a great idea. If you do this, you are missing key steps to success.
You need to have a clear plan you can follow.
That’s why I offer the 5 Day Love Your Lifestyle Business e-Course that comes with a simple one-page business plan template.
Step 2: Hire A Consultant
Many tend to go it alone when building their business. However, when you decide to hire a consultant who has done what you want to do they can guide you away from the many pitfalls of starting your business. This in turn saves you a massive amount of time and money.
You need help building your blueprint, and an experienced consultant can do that for you.

Step 3: Choose The Best Location
If you are opening a brick and mortar store, you need to make sure it’s the right location.
For example, during a consultation with one of my clients, we talked about the location for her new store. Because she wants it to be a success she found out how many cars pass the location. That’s important since more traffic means more visibility.
When you work from home you have to decide the best location for your home office. Is it quiet? Can you shut the door to your office?
Step 4: Acquire Funding
In another post, I discuss the various ways you can fund your business. If you are seeking a bank loan or an investor you will need a more detailed business plan. There are also business grants that you can apply for.
Step 5: Legal Structure of Your Business
Will your business be an LLC, Corporation or Sole Proprietor? Research these business structures and see which one best fits your business.
Step 6: Register Your Business Name
Each state may have a different process but you will need to legally register your name.
Step 7: Register For State and Local Taxes
You may choose to seek the advice of a CPA to make sure you have everything you need for collected state and local taxes. It’s also helpful to have software like quick books to help you with your accounting.
Step 8: Logo Design
You don’t have to wait to launch your business if you don’t have a logo design. I met with a potential client who had been waiting a year to launch his business because he couldn’t decide on his logo!
We’ve made logos for our clients so you can contact me or go to some place like 99 Designs.
Step 9: Get A Web Design
A mistake I’ve seen made over and over again is people designing their own websites. The problem is that you don’t have the knowledge and experience it takes to make sure you website not only looks well designed but functions as it should. Consider hiring a web designer. If you need one just let me know and I will point you to the company I use.
Step 10: Social Media Profiles
Every one of the social media sites you are active on should have the same consistency. When someone comes across you and your brand they need to recognize it right away. That means you need the same photo and information on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc.
Starting a business can be an exciting journey full of twists and turns.
