Your Business Can Be Like QVC
Have you ever gone to a site, looked for a product and then read a review about it?
In essence you were reading a testimonial.
The other day was looking at a product on QVC. If you aren’t in the states, QVC is a major online shopping sites. Yes, I admit I love QVC!
What I like about shopping on their sites is the reviews area.
Personally I like to see what other people are saying. Sometimes they highlight some great points I hadn’t thought of.
These sites are showing you social proof from people who have bought their product.
What does this have to do with your site? Plenty!
Your site needs to have social proof. That comes in the form of testimonials.
Why are they so powerful?
Much like the the sites I mentioned they help people decide whether they will buy your produce or services.
I learned early on in the wedding industry that I needed to have brides giving me testimonials. This would in turn help other brides make their decision in hiring us.
People like to know the benefits others have received before they make a purchase.
Of course when I first started my business I didn’t have reviews but I made it my number one priority.
When I started my marketing agency to help other service based businesses again, it was my number one priority.
I view everything I do as a opportunity to get testimonials.
When I go out and give presentations to various business groups I not only have my husband (who is also an award winning photographer/videographer) accompany me to take video of the event but I also make sure I encourage people to visit him at the back of the room to give me a testimonial.
Here’s someone giving me their testimonial:
It’s more powerful to have other people say how wonderful you are and the benefits they received from working with you than you saying it yourself.
That being said, it’s not always easy to get people to give you a testimonial. Interestingly it’s not that they don’t love what you do they may not feel it’s that pressing an issue for them.
For example I may have someone in The Secrets To Marketing Success group that had a questions answered that gave them clarity. On the call they thank me for the help but writing a testimonial may not be on their mind when they get off the call.
Here’s something I want you all to consider and this is important. Ready?
At some point in time you will want testimonials from other people. If you don’t give other people testimonials how can you expect to get them?
Didn’t think of that did you?
It’s amazing to put yourself in someone else’s shoes isn’t it?
You see one of the best pages you can have on your site is the Testimonials page. Let people see all the wonderful things people have said about you.
These testimonials don’t have to be video they can be written. The majority of testimonials I have are video because I make sure when I am on a video chat or at workshops I ask for them.
Help People With The Process
Many times people don’t give testimonials because they don’t know exactly what to say.
Here’s where you can help them.
Send an email with specific questions for them to answer. The answers to these questions become your testimonial.
For example I could ask the question to The Secrets To Marketing Success Group:
Have you learned anything new from the training?
Have you been able to implement any of these strategies?
How valuable do you find the downloads you are getting each month?
What do you like most about the training?
Do you like the fact that you can ask questions live?
As a member do you find it valuable that you can get your business question answered?
Did you realize this one benefit alone is like having a business coach on retainer?
You see I’ve just asked the questions I want them to answer.
Now of course if you are one of my members I’d love to have you answer those questions and I will make sure as a thank you that I have your photo and a link back to your site. That link is great for Search Engine Optimization.
I could use questions for my other online courses in order to get testimonials.
For years I’ve been talking about the three letter word: Ask
You might have to ask several times for the testimonial but remember how you’d feel if you were in the other persons shoes. Wouldn’t you want valuable testimonials on your site?
It’s a fact: Your website visitors believe that you will say anything about your products or services go them to buy from you.
Everyone is skeptical and with good reason. There are a lot of people who will say and do anything to get you to buy from them.
One time I contacted a wedding professional who was selling a CD about doing bridal shows. At that time I had done a number of them but because I had gone to a marketing event he held I considered purchasing the CD. I specifically asked him about a topic and if it was covered. I mentioned what I knew and asked if he would be going over more than that. He said, yes.
When I got the CD I thought, “I could have made my own CD and sold it! I had more knowledge than he did!” What annoyed me the most was that I asked about the topic which by the way was not really covered.
That was many years ago and I wish I knew then what I know now about making and selling my own products.
That did leave a lasting impression with me. I never want anyone to feel like they don’t get value from what they purchase from me be it a product or service.
I want them to learn, apply and succeed.
That’s why I always pack The Secrets To Marketing Success membership training with a ton of information and some kind of worksheets/templates/guide.
For me it’s about helping you attain your goals.
It’s one of the reasons I created The Secrets To Marketing Success membership so check it out:)
