One of the best things you can do for your business is build a following of loyal customers/subscribers/fans. These are the people who are excited to get updates from you and your company. They are your community.
If you are just starting out this is an aspect of your business you must start working on from the beginning. It can’t be left to chance.
For those of you who are already in business you need to continue to build your following.
As you look at other companies and personal brands who have large followings you will find they used different methods.
The interesting thing is that some have a large social media presence while others have a large mailing list.
There are other businesses where all their traffic and loyal fans come from podcasting or YouTube.
With so many choices your head might be spinning because you don’t know where or how to start.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to choose the BEST method for building a following/community that you feel most comfortable with. Then go from there.
When I talk to my clients about gaining visibility one of the first things we discuss is blogging.
Building a community by blogging has been the way many personal brands and companies have started and grown their business.
Having a blog enables you to have your online voice heard. It’s a way for people to get to know, like and trust you, which is extremely important in a crowded online environment.
When you start blogging you also do so with the intent of gaining email subscribers. These are the people that will be part of your community. List building is extremely important.
Building a community is extremely important .
When I found out about a recent competition at Start Up Nation there was only about 10 days left before the voting closed. It might have seemed crazy but I entered.
Once I did that I got busy reaching out to my community and asking them to vote.
The key here is that if I had left building a community as an after thought I wouldn’t have had the support of so many loyal fans.
If I hadn’t been emailing my list regularly with information and tips then it would have been virtually impossible for them to even consider taking the time to vote for me.
The people on your email list are real people with real problems and challenges. The question is how can you help them? It’s not by bombarding them every day with offers to buy your products or someone else’s. It’s by providing relevant information that can have a positive effect on their lives.
When I entered the competition so late in the game did I think I could do it? In my heart I felt it was possible but I needed support and I was truly moved by the support I received.
I’m happy to say I was one of the winners of the Start Up Nation Top 100 Home Based Business. According to the list I came at number 25! Pretty awesome don’t you think?
This inspires me even more to provide you with the information you need to start or grow your business.
So here’s what I want you to do. First sign up to be on my email list so I can give you tips on things like getting traffic to your website, gaining visibility and other marketing tips.
