Getting Set Up With Google+
Last Thursday I put up a post on finding the perfect platform for your online presence.
It has a great infographic sharing some insights into the various social media sites. It will help you decide which platform needs more of your attention.
When I work with clients to find the right platform to focus on most already know they should be on Facebook, LInkedIn, Twitter. But it seems Google+ is the one element they tend to leave out.
Many are probably reluctant to add yet another social media site to their to do list and I totally understand. That’s how I felt.
That was until I got some great advice from a social media guru who encouraged me to set up my account.
As time has gone by I can see the benefits to using Google+. Let’s face it. It is after all Google!
In yet another post I talked about Google doing away with it’s authorship feature. It seems Google wants us to be more active on Google+. One of the ways we do that is by publicly sharing other people’s posts.
How do you go about sharing other people’s posts? That’s easy.
As you visit different sites notice whether they have the Google+ share icon. If you find the article worthy of sharing on your Google+ profile do so.
Imagine my surprise the other day as I was doing research on a topic. There on the front page was my image and a post I had shared! How great is that!
Did you notice I said front page? That’s right my image and post right there where I want it.
On a side note that’s why it’s so important that the image you use for your social media profiles is consistent. People will start recognizing you by your image. That’s visual marketing but that’s a topic for another day.
When Google+ did have it’s authorship feature live you had a chance of having your image show up next to your own post. With that gone the next best thing is to be active and share other people’s information that you find valuable.
So, if you Google+ an article that you enjoy you might be rewarded with your image showing up on page one with that article!
Google +/+ is a fully integrated online system. For example, Gmail is Google’s online free email service. Gmail includes many perks and benefits that must be paid for at other online email websites. These include filters, vacation responders, and the ability to download mail to your computer and work offline.
To use Google+ you need to have a Gmail account. Here’s how you go about doing that.
When you sign up get a business email address to open your Google account. Later on you can add personal email addresses to your synched account.
Choose a password that you will remember but not easily guessed by others.
When Google+ first came out you had to get an invitation but that’s no longer the case. You can start setting up your Google+ settings right away!
One of the features I like about Google+ is it’s circles.
I’ll talk about that in my next post.
Do you use Google+?
