When a service based business starts working with me to get their business to the next level I always ask if they get referrals from their clients/customers.
The majority of the time the response I receive is, “no”.
I encourage them to ask their customers/clients. People may love your work but their mindset is not giving you referrals so you need to ask.
What’s the worst that could happen? They say “no”? You have a 50/50 chance that they will know someone who could use your services.
It’s important to also leave a couple of business cards with them. This way should they want to have someone call you they will not be giving up their only card.
In this video you are going to see some interesting sales stats especially when it comes to referrals.
People make referrals they just don’t realize it. For example have you every gone to a great restaurant and told your friends about it? You just made a referral.
Look at the commercial for Direct TV. They encourage you to refer and friend with the benefit of getting a discount on your monthly bill.
You can use this strategy in your business as well. When someone gives you a referral and the person hires you offer to give a discount the next time to the referring client.
This incentive can be a cash value or a discount for their next interaction with your company. The choice really is yours.
Did these statistics surprise you?
So the big question is, “Are you asking for referrals?”
