Most people have come to know Daymond John from the popular show Shark Tank.
It would be easy to think that he came from money, or that he had “special connections.” That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Growing up Daymond saw drug addicts and sights most children don’t. That’s what it was like growing up in Hollis Queens, NY.
There weren’t any role models for being an entrepreneur. As a matter of fact according to Daymond, your life was supposed to consist of getting a job and working hard for someone else.
Being your own boss wasn’t encouraged.
What does it really take to be a success?
Take note of the first thing Daymond said in this video. It’s the fact that you need to put skin in the game before you can ask anyone else for help. Work ten times harder than your competitor.
As you watched the video did you notice what he said about the Power of Broke?
You’ll find the insights he shares to be fascinating.
The video makes me think about several entrepreneurs I’ve seen on Shark Tank that had investors prior to coming into the Shark Tank. When asked what they did with the money most had no idea. Why? Sometimes the more money you have the more you spend and not necessarily in a good way.
Think about the purchases in your life you’ve made. Don’t you think long and hard about it? You want to make sure you are getting value.
Let’s turn that around and say you have an unlimited amount of money. Would you think as hard or would you make the purchase and if you were unable simply shrug it off?
If you are trying to build your brand and you don’t have the same money as your competitor that doesn’t mean you are doomed.
As a matter of fact, it might make you wiser and smarter.
You are going to PLAN better, BRAND better and PROMOTE better.
Most people think success comes by chance but it doesn’t. As Daymond mentioned it takes work and a lot of it.
It bothers me that so many people try to tell you that you can simply push a button and have success.
The only place an easy button exists is in a Staples commercial.
How can you PLAN for success? There are a number of ways.
If your budget is tight consider joining the Template Hub Club. This is the perfect place to get your business in order. Every month you’ll focus on one key area of your business. Now that’s a plan!
How can you BRAND? This accomplished by making sure your message is consistent all your social media sites. One way to do that is to make sure you have the same professional imaged used as your avatar. You don’t want to confuse people as to who you are. If you have a logo use it. In order to build a brand people have to know what your message is. What can you do for them?
How can you PROMOTE? In many ways, this is the exciting part because the sky is the limit. We could talk for hours on the many ways to promote your business but I’ll discuss just a couple so as not to overwhelm you.
You promote yourself by being an asset. What does that mean? You provide value to other people first. You participate at networking events virtual and in person.
The one thing you make a habit of is looking for ways you can help other people. Now I know what you are thinking. Who is going to help me?
Someone who has the same philosophy as you. Help first.
Become the type of person others admire and want to be like.
Start using video to show who you are and what you do. This is hard for many because they are camera shy but it’s a great way for you to virtually shake the hand of your ideal customer or client.
Use the power of your voice. How? Start podcasting and sharing your message with the world. Podcasting is one of the easiest ways to have your online voice heard.
Start by sharing tips in your area of expertise. That’s what I did.
From there I moved on to create an author interview series. Every week I interview an author to give them a voice as well as give you the inspiration to write your own book.
When it comes to an investment in podcasting it’s minimal compared to other marketing strategies. You have to be educated on the how to podcast like a pro. Once you have that education you know what to say, how to say it and the must have the equipment.
That’s how you start building a brand that redefines everything.
