Have you ever watched the popular show America’s Got Talent? The other evening a young girl stepped up to the microphone. It was easy to see she was nervous. You could have heard a pin drop. Then it happened. She sang her heart out resulting in a loud applause and being sent to the next round.,
Stepping up to the microphone is what we are going to talk about today. No, I’m not talking about you getting on America’s Got Talent although that would be pretty cool and a huge boost for your business!
I’m talking about being interviewed.
For most, being interviewed does not mean being on a TV show like Good Morning America.
However that can happen.
In the past few weeks I’ve been interviewed by the Women Speaker Association, EntreprenHer, and Business Success Café.
So what can being interviewed do for you and your business?
First it can help establish you as a thought leader. We all have tidbits of information we want to share. Getting in front of a completely different audience is exactly what you want in order to broaden your reach and have your voice heard.
Last week I talked about having your voice heard in Facebook groups.
What about offering to be interviewed by others in the group?
It’s a way to potentially get quite a few responses.
You can also start looking at comments others are making in these groups to see if they need your level of expertise on their “show.”
Sometimes when people introduce themselves into a group they might mention they have a “show.” If so , perfect. Reach out to them.
Another way to potentially get interviews is by letting your “friends” on Facebook know that you are available.
In the past I’ve mentioned my Facebook “friends” consist mainly of business contacts.
Since “friends” are supposed to help “friends” why not try this approach.
How else can you get interviewed?
You can sign up for Help A Reporter Out: Haro.
There are people looking to interview others in various fields/backgrounds.
I’ve seen people asking for all kinds of things in Help A Reporter Out.
As a matter of fact that’s how I got featured in an article about video marketing on the American Express Open Forum.
Another way to get interviewed is by reaching out to bloggers who have your ideal audience.
It gives them content for their website and also provides value to their readers.
Most times in order to get interviewed bloggers will want you to be active on their site. In other words they want you commenting and sharing.
For years now I’ve been teaching my clients to not only have their own blogs but to seek out other bloggers and start leaving meaningful comments.
The operative word is meaningful.
Whether you commenting on a blog, or Instagram don’t use one liners like: great, wonderful.
Share a point or two from the post in your comment to let them know you actually read it or viewed the video.
It takes time and effort. I tend to think that’s why most people don’t follow this strategy.
In the long run however it can pay off big time!
Stop back for the next article I’ll be sharing about how to have your “voice” heard.
It’s really obvious but….
Be Savvy and Successful!
