Every great blog post starts with an idea. It’s how you develop that idea that makes it valuable to your readers.
As you sit in front of your computer ready to write your blog post you envision people not only reading but sharing your content. That doesn’t happen by chance. You need a plan.
What if there way an easy step-by-step process you could follow time and again to write that great blog post that has people reading and sharing?
The good news is that there is a step-by-step system you can follow and I’ve outlined it in this infographic.
Your headline is very often the first thing people will see. It should be interesting making people want to read the rest of your story. Don’t be boring!
A picture in a blog post is a good way to not only break up the text, but it’s also a great way to share your content. It’s easier to share a photo on Pinterest or Instagram from your blog post and encourage people to visit your blog and read. When using photos make sure you have the right to use them otherwise you face copyright issues.
Your introduction is another chance to capture your reader and pull them in. You need to tell people why they should read your blog post. Don’t get too wordy; a punchy intro is more effective.
After your intro, segue into your main points. If you are doing a list style post, use a line like “The main points are..” rather than just putting a bulleted list directly after your intro.
Your Main Points
Deliver the main points that you want read. You can use a bulleted list to break them down or use headings over paragraphs. Write for your reader, not search engines.
A blog post isn’t a college essay. You don’t have to reiterate all of your points again, but a closing paragraph does wrap up your post and doesn’t leave readers hanging.
Invitation For Feedback
The comment section of your blog is a great way to build a community. You can say something as simple as “leave your thoughts and comments below.” You are probably wondering why I don’t have a comment section.
I used to, but I have comments enabled, but because of some issues, I had with spam, etc. I decided for the time being to eliminate them. I’m building my community via my free optin offers and my newsletter. That’s where I teach people a variety of marketing and business related material. It also makes it easier for people to hit reply from my newsletter and let me know their thoughts which I do ask for.
When you create great content people will want to share it. Make sure you have an easy way for them to do that. For example, use Shareaholic. At the end of your post ask people to share via the social icons. You will see me do that in all of my posts. I want people to share via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.
