6 Tips To keep your desk organized
I don’t know about you but I could never understand how people could work with a cluttered desk.
That being said when was the last time you saw the top of your desk?
I think part of having a clutter free desk also means having a clutter free office space.
It makes me think of the time I met with a client and we had to literally walk over boxes in his office to get to the desk!
Imagine that was you inviting someone into your office. How would you feel as you rummaged through your papers looking for the right one.
Do you think that would make you look professional?
The list can go on and on when it comes to de-cluttering your work space but let’s discuss 6 top tips.
Tip 1: Give yourself room to work. If you have papers all over your desk you won’t know where to begin.
Tip 2: Start with the papers you need to file away. Start sorting your paper work into piles. This could be incoming mail, papers you need to review or work to do. The point is to have one place for all paperwork to go so you know what you have to deal with and when.
We all have different methods for organization. Personally I like to put my projects into folders. This enables me to not only keep organized but also at a glance see what project needs to be worked on next.
I recently went to Target and found magazine file organizers that work really well for putting my folders in.
Tip 3: As you go through your papers, separate the things that need your immediate attention, things that have important dates or contact information and those that you can handle at another time.
Tip 4: Create a simple filing system to keep important papers. I purchased a monthly file box that has 31 folder areas. Each section can either represent each day of the month or contracts etc. Once you have your system in place, use it daily to keep papers from piling up again.
Tips 5: Keep your desk free of unnecessary times. You may find that at times you need paper clips. Keeping a box of them on the desk may tend to add clutter. Why not keep them in a desk draw that you have easy access to? Forming this type of habit will make you work more efficiently.
Tip 6: No one wants to start their day off feeling like they are already behind so take 15 minutes at the end of the day to clear your desk off.
Starting with a clean slate in the morning will help you to start the day off more refreshed and ready to go.
There are so many other tips for de-cluttering your space but hopefully this will give you some clear tips your can follow and start implementing.
Just remember. You can make a difference in how your workspace looks and how you feel while you are in it.
If you feel unorganized the time is now to implement these tips.
