I don’t know about you but I could never understand how people could work with a cluttered desk.
That being said when was the last time you saw the top of your desk?
I think part of having a clutter free desk also means having a clutter free office space.
It makes me think of the time I met with a client and we had to literally walk over boxes in his office to get to the desk!
Imagine that was you inviting someone into your office. How would you feel as you rummaged through your papers looking for the right one.
Do you think that would make you look professional?
Believe it or not working from home sometimes requires more organizational skills then when you have a 9 to 5 job.
If you feel you need to take control of your clutter then I’m going to share some must know tips with you.
1) Start with the papers you need to file away. Start sorting your paper work into piles. This could be incoming mail, papers you need to review or work to do. The point is, have one place for all paperwork to be filed so you know what you have to deal with and when.
These files are wonderful for helping you place your important papers in a logical order. By creating this filing system you can categorize all your papers.
Once you have your papers filed you can go back and decide what needs to be done first.
2) I like to use these magazine book document folder organizers.
When I’m working on a project one might be labeled “research”,
“courses to create”, etc.
When you are organized you get more accomplished.
3) One of my other handy organizers is my calendar. Each day I put down what needs to be done. Think of it as your to do list.
You can glance at your calendar and plan your day accordingly.
Make sure the calendar has large enough blocks to write in.
4) Keep your desk free of unnecessary items. You may find that at times you need paper clips. Keeping a box of them on the desk may tend to add clutter. Why not keep them in a desk draw that you have easy access to? Forming this type of habit will make you work more efficiently.
No one wants to start their day off feeling like they are already behind so take 15 minutes at the end of the day to clear your desk off.
These tips should help start becoming more organized and more productive!
