The first step to sticking to your goals and achieving them is by setting the right kind of goals. Create SMART goals, goals which are Specific, Measurable, Accurate, Realistic, and Timely.
I was watching the Doctor OZ show where they were talking about weight loss. Let’s suppose your goal is to lose 5 pounds in 10 days. That goal is measurable and specific, but it is not realistic. You will push yourself too hard to achieve it, and chances are you will fail. When that happens, you have the feeling of being a failure and rather than continue to try you end up quitting.
If you set realistic goals, you will be able to stick to them and progress will be accomplished. Where progress is accomplished, there is motivation, and you keep achieving, even more, goals.
The same holds true if you want to write a book. Don’t say you want to write a book, take the necessary steps to write your book.
Prioritize Your Goals
The only way of doing it is by doing it now, not later. Do not procrastinate when it comes to achieving your goals. If you have your priorities upside down, then you will not stick to your goals, and consequently, you cannot achieve them.
If you prioritize your goals, then you will know what to do and when to do it. If your goal is to work out in the morning, do not hit the snooze button, wake up and hit the gym.
Put Reminders in Place and Believe in Yourself
It’s not unusual to have our minds wander off from goal to goal. To help yourself stick to your goals, put reminders in place. This will remind you and help you to stay focused.
More important, believe that you can do it.
Clear yourself of any doubts that you may have. If you have doubts about achieving your goals, then you will lack the motivation you need to stick to them. Believing in yourself gives you confidence that you can actually achieve your goals and that you are in control.
You can only achieve your goals if you stick to them. The above tips are easy to implement. Once you do you will be in a better position to achieve whatever goal you set for yourself.
