2 Step process for being authentic online:
There are many forms of marketing but today we are going to talk about personality marketing.
When I think about personality marketing the first person that comes to my mind is Oprah.
Oprah’s entire business is built around her personality.
People came on her show to be interviewed because they like her.
Oprah’s Personality brought authors, celebrities and others to her show.
Many times people will follow a website because they like the personality behind the website. You may watch Ellen because you like her personality.
The point is you were connecting with people because of their personality.
How can you learn to use personality marketing?
Look to your friends and family first.
How would they describe you?
Would they say you are funny, spontaneous, easy to talk to.
To be successful online you need to convey these qualities to your audience.
In the past I’ve talked about speaking to your ideal client one on one through your written message or in your videos.
When people feel they are connecting with your message they are more likely to be drawn in by what you were saying. You will have their full attention.
Saying you should show your personality is one thing but how exactly do you do that?
Try the following exercise.
First: Take out your tablet or a pen and paper.
Think about a specific topic and then write your opinion. As you write, envision yourself talking to one specific friend.
Tell them your inner thoughts and emotions with regard to the topic.
Be totally honest.
Second: Walk away from what you have just written. Come back to it in a few hours or the next day.
As you look at what your wrote down are there any changes you want to make? If there are then make those changes/additions.
Use this conversation as an outline for you’re post.
Then start writing.
This technique can help you to see how you can put your personality into everything you write.
How will you know if you’re letting your personality shine?
This will come from the feedback you get from your audience.
When you put your personality into your work people may be more excited and engaged.
Listen to the feedback you receive.
Use that feedback to make the most of your personality marketing.
What ways do you find helpful in letting your personality shine through in your marketing?
