Recently I attended a “Blab” hosted by the Women Speakers Association. If you don’t know what Blab is I’ll explain it briefly. It’s another fabulous way to create brand awareness.
It’s live steaming video. You can create a Blab using your desktop and camera to broadcast your message to the world. Just saying that sounds pretty cool doesn’t it?
Since the topic of the Blab was hiring your dream team I wanted to share some thoughts on reasons you might want to hire a virtual assistant to be part of your team.
This is something that every business thinks about as they grow and expand. I’m fortunate to have my husband as my number one assistant but I have used other people over the last 25 years as well.
Virtual assistants can be helpful in taking care of the non money making tasks. This frees you up to work on the cash producing areas of your business.
Let’s talk about 10 reasons you might need a Virtual Assistant
You Work load is too high
Most people start a business because they want freedom, flexibility and be able to spend more time with their family. As time goes on however you might feel as if you are chained to your computer. Your business may be experiencing certain levels of success but you feel overworked.
Your putting off important tasks.
You need to know where your money is being spent as well as invoicing people for your services. Because you are overwhelmed you might be putting off this all important task. This is very dangerous because it’s impossible for you to know how well your business is doing if you aren’t doing your bookkeeping.
You spend too much time on non-money making tasks
This is huge! You might be doing so much in your business that isn’t related to bringing in an income that at the end of the week you feel as if you have two full time jobs. Let’s step back and take a realistic view. Maybe you have a power point presentation that needs to be made. You have all the information but it needs to go into power point slides. That’s taking time away from you brining in let’s say $150 an hour. If you hired someone at $20 to $50 how much time would that save, enabling you to make more money? It’s easy to think you are saving money by doing it yourself but in actuality it’s costing you money.
You are stressed out
If you are feeling overworked and exhausted it’s time to think of hiring a VA. You need to keep yourself healthy and eating properly. After all you are your business! Remember, you didn’t start your business to be stressed out.
You are working more than 40 hours a week
There’s no doubt about it. As a business owner you do have to put in the work to gain success. However if you find you are working more that 40 hours a week you need help! How do you take this step? First, figure out how many hours of your work is billable versus non-billable. The non billable amount is how much help you need from a virtual assistant.
You don’t want to train people
If you’ve ever had to train an employee to do simple tasks you are probably dreading hiring someone. The difference is a virtual assistant should already have experience and specialize in the thing you either don’t want to do or don’t know how to do.
You don’t want an employee
If you are going to hire an employee there are a lot of things you need to do to make sure you are in compliance with government regulations. When you hire a VA as contractor they do their job without training, use their own equipment (computers etc) and meet your deadlines within your specified timeline.
You don’t know how to do something
It’s impossible to know everything. Perhaps you need help setting up a membership site. If you need work done that you don’t know how to do and don’t have the time to learn a VA trained in this area is exactly what you need. They’ll take over that task and handle it faster ultimately saving your time and money.
Your business is growing in leaps and bounds
When your business is growing and expanding you need more hands. Every week there’s more and more work that has to be done. The next thing you know you are falling behind. Having a VA to help manage this growth means you can continue to grow at a comfortable pace.
You realize that others can take on the task
One of the things most entrepreneurs encounter is relinquishing things. You need to learn to let go. Maybe we feel we can do it better and faster but the truth is, when you have a skilled VA they can help you whether you are struggling with the task or not.
You might have a VA scan your emails, respond to them, post on social media, book travel, make calls, conduct research, create invoices manage projects and more.
The bottom line is that a VA can free up your time to focus on the things that will bring in more money to the business.
Go back and review point three if you think you can’t “afford” a VA.
